Goldrush 2.5 yrs After Topworking
Просмотров 7933 года назад
Taking a look at this Goldrush apple tree top worked 2.5 years ago. The tree is on MM111 and was originally a Kidds Orange Red. I believe 5 bark grafts were made and one died after one year. Nice crop after 3 growing seasons following the variety change.

The Problem with Disease Resistant Apple Trees

Believe it or not, disease resistant trees are not the end of your apple tree problems. Still, they are a solid foundation to a low spray or organic orchard. Here’s a few things I’ve learned.

what's your spray schedule for your orchard? insect sprays, fungicide, etc ?
Looks like Bitter Pit.
Very like your Garapting Apple Garden 🌹👌💚 I love you too my friend I'm from Bangladesh thank you so much
I'd love to see what those trees look like today !
I feel theres a better way.
It looks like you like to trim trees, dont get suckard in cutting suckers.
University of Maryland recommends some fruit trees for us in Maryland but they also list about 10 different chemicals that you need to spay every 10 days. Nothing grows well her except Barries.
Be grateful for yer blessings !
Anyone else here from the midnight library?
Does planting the resistant trees next to the susceptible ones have any downsides? If your susceptible tree gets a disease, does it increase the chances of the spreading to the resistant trees?
I finally figured out all those vegetative rootstock whips and suckrrs can be easily rooted for free rootstock. Perfectly legal as long as you don't sell them.
Hope everthing is goine well with you. We miss you. Best wishies. I'm in bloom here in north Texas. I've sprayed twice with antibiotic for fireblight prevention, and it looks like there's a potential for a good season. I hope the same is true for you.
I have 2 apples one is loaded with japanese bugs and looks dead by the end of June then all of a sudden the little apples dries up. I think its the bugs primarily eating the leaves and possible disease. This yr i will cover rhe whole tree with bug netting c what happens the spray dont help much.
I would love to know if these apples are fruiting well and taste good. I have grafted some crab apples here in the UK. However, I read an article that said that the fruit grafted onto crab apples can end up tasting astringent or bitter and take on some of the characteristics of a crab apple. Mine haven't fruited yet but will be great to know how yours taste and your experience seeing as this video was 12 years ago and I imagine you have fruit now.
So what are your favorite varieties for production, desease resistance, pest resistance, storage and taste?
👍⚾️
I breed hamsters for apple rust...
disease are nature's way of telling you: YOU PLANTED THE SPECIES IN THE WRONG SPOT BOZO!
Beautiful video and I love love the music. I'm preparing to graft a sentimental pecan variety "unknown" from my grandmother's old land. Big oblong tasty pecans. I really want to have this type of pecan tree In the future. Awesome to see you've accomplished this. So inspiring! Peace N Love
Great information! Thank you
do you have a recommendation on where one could buy peach, apricot, nectaine trees? I love Century Farms but he only sells apples, pears, and figs
How old is that tree ?
How tall were trees when arrived ? I'm assuming 1 yr old trees
Have a "mini" orchard with 11 trees, plum, apples, peach and pears. PC showed up two years ago and was really bad this year. I was turned off by the shipping cost of Surround so bought small 1 pound bag of no-name kaolin clay on Amazon. When I sprayed it clogged my sprayer (came with no instructions) so used Surround instructions off of internet. When I cleaned my expensive battery back pack sprayer found sand in bottom of tank from cheap clay. Bad news for electric pump. Also I was worried with the blocking of photo synthesis with the clay, it must block a good percentage of rays. Thanks for the video and sharing knowledge. There must be tons of us out there with the same problem.
Nothing compares to fishing string when it comes to deterring birds flying!!!! I learned this while at the beach one summer. All the locals had fishing string tied up so the seagulls wouldn’t come around. I’ve been doing it ever since and something about they are scared to get caught in it??? I guess you’d have to throw fishing line all around each tree though and not sure how that would work??
Can you take those suckers, put rooting hormone on them and try to get them to root??
Hey man, what has been your best all around rootstock to use for apple trees? Thanks a lot
Would you consider selling about 10-15 small M111 rootstocks??
update on this apple? i have a 3 year old in NE Ohio 6a still probably 5 weeks away im guessing
So opossom is what's been eating them. Thank you
Pretty, i picked today in Central pa. Funny your video showed up, big tech,
Looks like bitter pit on the king david.
Thank you for the education! Just thinned 5 Apple trees…
I planted honey crisp I added pit moss manure fertilizer and had similar yellow leaves for two years and yellow reddish body. I thought it had to much nitrogen than I added simple sand to make it some acidic and yep that did fix it in the same year believe it or not . I’m not sure if sand fixed it or tree got more mature !!! Now is doing well with dark leaves and greenish body .
What kind of tape did you use? I have duck tape.
If your having problems with disease and pest then it's because your trees aren't healthy. Fix your soil and you won't have to spray them.
Did you intentionally terminate the rye during the late spring? How tall did you let it grow? Did you follow with a summer cover? I’m experimenting with a rye winter cover and loving it!
Спасибо. Очень симпатичные и люди, и яблони.
I am gonna try and guerilla grow apples on wild crab apple trees I find. This video was helpful. I also plan to try this with domestic cherry tree cuttings and wild cherry trees. My local public land is full of crab apples and wild cherries.
Great video, I don't grow dwarfs but I do trim them to be that size. Subscribed.
Roundup apples.?
Just seen it has been ten years now how did it go ? I heard a lot of birds in the video and was going to ask if the property may stay to wet ?
🍎🍎
I had Wisconsin grown King David’s last year in late October. Turns out to be one of my favorites now.
If a semi dwarf begins to get taller than I'd like is lopping the main feeder off an option? Asking as a guy who just ordered 4 semi dwarfs and wondering if he made a mistake
Cool. Do you have a follow up video?
That looks like bitter pit.
We’re we supposed to learn something here ???
Try dolgo rootstock disease free for the most part
Impressive orchard I'm doing the same.
